ABOUT OUR SCHOOL

Italian in Florence is the language school of Centro Internazionale Studenti Giorgio La Pira. The Center is a place of hospitality, meeting and dialogue, that offers training and cultural activities in order to promote the ideal of universal fraternity. This dream/mission has been pursued since 1978 when, thanks to the efforts of Cardinal Benelli and Chiara Lubich, the Center started his activities, offering itself as a place of hospitality for young international students, of meeting and dialogue about intercultural and interreligious topics, and as a place of solidarity, offering scholarships to support students in need. Several events are organized in the Center, from book presentations to art exhibitions, from intercultural and interreligious debates to film festivals, etc. The school Italian in Florence offers Italian and English language courses and training courses for teachers of Italian as a second language. The school is recognized by Università per Stranieri di Siena as an official exam site for CILS and DITALS certifications, offering both CILS and DITALS preparatory courses and is part of a non-profit association recognized by the Tuscany district.

ITALIAN COURSE PRESENTATION

Aims

Our Italian courses aim is to develop the four main language skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing.

Our teaching method is based on a functional-communicative approach, that encourages the inductive learning of grammar, extrapolated from communication structures instead of being memorized through pattern drills. In our functional-communicative approach, the teacher starts from everyday life relational needs, encouraging students to use the structures they already know and to improve them, while detecting any kind of weaknesses. This meticulous work is made possible by the small number of students per class: between 6 and 12.

All our teachers are Italian native speakers and university graduates, specialized in teaching Italian as a second language (DITALS certification) and highly experienced.

Our training offer is divided into different levels, from elementary to advanced, covering all the respective Q.C.E.R European framework levels. At the end of the course we provide our students that attended at least 70% of the classes with an attendance certificate. We also provide with a competence certificate those students who succeeded in passing the final test with a score equal or higher than 60 out of 100.

BRIEF SUMMARY OF COURSES CONTENT

Level A1

This course aims to make students acquire communication structures together with grammatical and lexical basic knowledge at an elementary level, useful to understand and use everyday Italian expression and essential phrases to fulfill basic material needs.
